Ana Mata is the Managing Director and founder of MatBlas. she is one of the most sought after pricing actuaries in the London Market, but her worldwide experience, combined with her candid approach to business, have made her respected and trusted among clients in the USA, Bermuda and Europe.

Ana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pure Mathematics from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela, a PhD in Actuarial Mathematics from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and she is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society in the USA. Ana is a frequent speaker in actuarial conferences and has authored of a number of practical papers. She has been awarded the Brian Hey prize twice as co-author of the papers Pricing Excess of Loss Treaties with Loss Sensitive Features: An Exposure Rating Approach in 2002 and Analyzing the Disconnect Between the Reinsurance Submission and Global Underwriter’s Needs – Property Per Risk in 2017.

Lucio joined MatBlas as a Project Manager, bringing over 14 years of experience in software development and project leadership across multiple industries. His career includes leading technical teams, managing cross-functional projects, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, high-impact solutions.

Previously, Lucio served as CTO on his own startup, where he was responsible for overseeing the development and growth of the company’s technology platform, expanding its presence to 18 countries and 2,000 active clients. His expertise spans agile project management, technical architecture, and bridging the gap between technology and business strategy.

At MatBlas, Lucio focuses on streamlining technical workflows, driving innovation, and supporting the growth of the company’s platform through efficient delivery processes.

In his free time, Lucio enjoys mountain climbing, fly fishing, and outdoor activities.

Mark joined MatBlas in 2022 as a Junior Software Developer.

He began his career in hospitality management, leading large teams and transforming underperforming venues into thriving, highly profitable businesses. Driven by a lifelong passion for software, Mark shifted his focus in 2020, studying artificial intelligence to develop the skills necessary for a professional career in software. Seeking a field where his expertise could make a meaningful impact, he found his niche in the digital transformation of insurance pricing models.

At MatBlas, Mark contributes to innovative software solutions and supports the technological advancement of the insurance industry.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, snowboarding and exploring the fascinating world of amateur mycology.

German (pronounced like ‘Herman’) joined MatBlas in 2024 as a Senior Developer Engineer. He serves as one of the lead developers for the Metropolis Application and oversees infrastructure management across the organisation.

With 17 years of IT experience, German brings extensive expertise from diverse sectors including Port Terminals, Mining, and Utilities. His technical background spans both development and operations, enabling him to bridge critical gaps between software delivery and infrastructure management.

At MatBlas, he focuses on optimising development workflows and ensuring robust infrastructure solutions that support the company’s growing portfolio of applications.

Outside of work, German is an accomplished accordion player and enjoys staying active through padel.

Abdullah joined MatBlas in September 2023 as a Junior Software Engineer following the completion of a degree in Software Engineering at the University of Bolton.

At MatBlas, he has been responsible for the development and enhancement of various insurance pricing models, mainly in Python. With a focus on deepening his roots in full-stack development, Abdullah, like other developers at the company, has also undergone some insurance training to acquire more theoretical knowledge of pricing methodologies (such as basic actuarial science concepts) and standard components of pricing models (Such as KPIs), and is now looking to gain practical experience in reinsurance as future opportunities arise.

In his free time, Abdullah enjoys card games as well as speedrunning challenges.

David started with MatBlas in 2024 and is currently working as a junior software developer.

David has previously worked as a Design Engineer for a manufacturing company prior to starting a degree in BSc Games Development at Chester University. He joined MatBlas shortly after completing his degree.

In MatBlas, David focuses on developing insurance models from Microsoft Excel into a variety of platforms, using Python, as well as front-end tools such as React, whilst also testing existing models for QA.

David lives with his family and often enjoys leisure activities in his free time.

Lewis joined MatBlas in July 2022 after completing a degree in Actuarial Mathematics at the University of Liverpool.

As an actuarial analyst, he focuses on designing robust pricing models and assisting with reinsurance pricing.

Lewis brings a detail-oriented approach that helps clients make informed decisions and manage financial risk effectively.

When not crunching numbers, you can find him on the golf course, or in the stands at Anfield.

Jai joined MatBlas in July 2023 as an intern, following the completion of his Pure Mathematics degree at the University of Chester. In September 2023, he transitioned to a permanent position with us.

At MatBlas, he oversees the planning, execution and completion of client projects, ensuring they meet established goals while being delivered within the specified timeframe. He has also contributed to the development of our automated pricing testing methods, our enhancement of Excel pricing models for clients, our front-end quality assurance testing of pricing models and the seasonal pricing support we have offered for reinsurance clients.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing football and watching documentaries.

Joe joined MatBlas in Autumn 2024, mainly doing analysis in the busy end-of-year reinsurance period.

He previously obtained his MSc Mathematics degree at University of Birmingham, where he developed a love for scrutinising data and numerical modelling.

Beside his work for MatBlas, Joe is learning French and enjoys reading & playing the tuba.
